My Response to an Unbeliever!

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. Continue reading My Response to an Unbeliever!

When Jehovah Witnesses Call, Don’t Hide, Evangelize!

In 2011, the Jehovah Witnesses claimed to have preached worldwide an astonishing 1,707,094,710 hours! That means Witnesses performed 142,257,893 door to door preaching hours per month or 4,676,971.81 hours a day. They also claim to have accomplished this with only 7,659,019 witnesses worldwide; therefore, each witness averaged 223 hours a year or one hour of door to door witnessing every day! The unprepared Christian will be at a considerable disadvantage when the well trained Witness arrives at the door.

Some people refuse to answer the door. Others engage the witnesses, but get lost in a game of biblical ping pong. Many become frustrated at their inability to penetrate the Watchtower built around the Witness, and simply give up. There is a way to break through!

The Christian need not fear an encounter with Jehovah Witnesses. Christ called us to witness to everyone, including Jehovah Witnesses. This can be done quickly and easily. Instead of being intimated by Jehovah Witnesses, Christians can lovingly put them on the defensive very quickly, while simultaneously sowing seeds of doubt in the mind of the Witness.

Pray, pray, pray. Pray that God brings Witnesses to your door, and pray that you will have the right words when they come. Pray silently while they are visiting, and pray for them when they leave. Pray for them whenever they cross your mind. I still pray for Witnesses I met years ago. I have no idea where they are, or if they have surrendered to God. It only takes a few minutes whenever they cross my mind to place them before the throne of the Almighty.

Have the right attitude. The salvation of lost souls is the only goal. Never seek to win an argument. It is better to lose the argument and win the soul.

NEVER TRY TO TEACH JEHOVAH WITNESSES! Jehovah Witnesses believe that they are the only ones who understand the Bible. If you attempt to teach them, they will shut down and not listen to you. They have been taught that non-Jehovah Witnesses cannot properly interpret the Bible. Since the Watchtower programmed them to have all of the answers, let them teach you! They will jump at the opportunity to answer your questions; therefore, ask them questions designed to expose their false religion, lack of biblical knowledge, and sow the seeds of doubt all at the same time.

Either Jesus rose bodily or He is a Liar. Jehovah Witnesses are taught that Jesus’ body was destroyed after the crucifixion. They believe that he materialized bodies as needed to convince his followers that he was resurrected. (Witnesses cannot even see the deception in that statement.) Your goal is to make them see the deception by sowing seeds of doubt with Scriptures they cannot refuted or reason away. They will attempt to give an answer, but unless they are ready to get out of the Watchtower, the answer will never be correct. To agree destroys their theology, and the must protect the Watchtower at all cost.

ASK THE WITNESS TO READ AND EXPLAIN THE FOLLOWING TEXT. If they agree with the text, the Watchtower is wrong, if they do not agree, Jesus is a liar.

John 2:18-22
Then the Jews demanded of him, “What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” The Jews replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. (NIV)

They have walked into the trap. The Jehovah Witness will read the passage and possibly state what it clearly says without realizing that it contradicts Watchtower doctrine. Ask the Witness a question similar to this, “I am a little confused. I was told that Jehovah Witnesses do not believe that Jesus was raised in his own body. But these Scriptures clearly state that he was. Can you explain this to me?”

They cannot give an honest answer. The Witness will attempt to answer your question. Remember in their minds, they have the “truth” and we don’t. But they will NOT give a correct answer. They will revert to their theology that Jesus manufactured bodies to convince his followers that he was resurrected. If you inform them that Jesus must have lied if he made up temporary bodies to “fool” is followers into believing that it was him, they may attempt to lead you down a rabbit trail. Don’t go! Tell them that you must resolve this conflict before venturing to another topic. Remember; never appear threatening or overtly confrontational. Sincerely seek an answer, if they can give you a good one, evaluate it. Remember, their answers will not work.

Beware of reverse traps!
Mark 16:12
After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. (KJV)

The Jehovah Witness will use Mark 16:12 as proof that Jesus appeared in another form.

The Jehovah Witness will either use a King James Bible or the New World Translation (NWT) which they created. Although the KJV is a very good Bible, there are many questions pertaining to the ending of Mark Chapter 16. The KJV was translated in 1611 mostly from the Septuagint; however, older manuscripts have been found which ends at verse 8. Most modern versions of the Bible will indicate in footnotes or margins that verses 9 -20 are questionable and probably not part of the original text. Even the NWT acknowledges two separate endings.

To accept verses 9 – 20 would mean that baptism is a requirement for salvation (verse 16)-which is a work, and (verse 18) believers can handle snakes and drink poisons. I do find too many people living who are engaging in those activities.

These doctrines are not found in any other parts of the Bible; therefore, one shouldn’t base his eternal destiny on those questionable “Scriptures” alone.

Jesus was not recognized

There are several post resurrection Scriptures in which the disciples did not recognized Jesus. Jehovah Witnesses will attempt to use them to convince you that Jesus took up other bodies. Never forget the main premise, if he did, he still lied. The explanation is that Jesus prevented people from recognizing him until he was ready for them to.

Luke 24:13-16
Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. (NIV)

Walter Martin once used the analogy that a hypnotist could make a person forgot people by giving that person a shot of mental Novocain. The hypnotist uses suggestion to block the mind of the subject; Jesus could do the same thing by his sovereign will. In the above stated Scriptures as well as the others in which Jesus was not recognized, he delayed the disciples’ ability to recognize him until he wanted them to. At no point did the Scriptures ever say that it wasn’t Jesus.
If you study the remainder of Luke Ch. 24 along with John Ch 20:26-30, you will have ammunition Witnesses must refute but can’t. They may display a confident face to go along with their distorted logic, but they will not bring the truth. Since they must either renounce Jesus as a liar, or accept him as the bodily resurrected Lord, they will twist in the wind, because they can do neither!
Let the Jehovah Witness leave with integrity. It is always better to lose the argument and win the soul. They will already feel defeated even if they do not show it. How would you feel if you thought you had all the answers, but ended up in a non-defensible position?

God is sovereign and worthy of all praise! He gave us all the answers we need to use against the cults. Once the seeds of doubt have been sown, back off and continue to be gracious. Only the power of God can breakdown through the clay walls of the Watchtower; therefore pray, pray and pray some more that the Jehovah Witnesses will see the real Jesus Christ and submit to His will.
