America has a new unofficial “official” religion. Only the shadow of Christianity remains acceptable. This new religion doesn’t flow from living water, but gushes from rusted pipes. Adherents are called to embrace ambiguity, due to its constantly evolving foundation. What was wrong is no longer knowable. What was true is no longer tolerable. The only permanence is today; nevertheless, Syncretistic Satanism is being systematically forced on the populous whether we want it or not. The disciples knew. Polycarp knew. Bonheoffer knew, and Jesus definitely knows. But do the claimants of Christianity know what it means to be a Christian in the 21st Century? Just calling oneself a Christian today is insufficient. These days we must define our definition of Christianity beyond the denominational sense. Diversity in the Body of Christ pertaining to modes of baptism, gifts of the Spirit or the various forms of worship do not violate the fundamental principles of Christianity. However, in the 21st Century, some would have us abandon unchangeable biblical mandates. Those people presumably fall into one of three camps:
(1) They have either abandoned the faith.
(2) They do not understand what they claim to believe.
(3) They seek to destroy Christianity.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (KJV)
Many people believe that in order to be a Christian all you have to do is recite Romans 10:9-10. While the confession of faith is the first step, one needs to continue walking. The failure to continue walking leads to spiritual atrophy. As Christians, we must believe that Jesus died for our sins and was raised from the dead. Yet some people seem to forget that although salvation is free, it will cost them everything. Salvation is not a get out of hell free card. God freely saves the sinner and the sinner freely declares total allegiance, obedience and submission to the will of God.
Called to carry the Cross
Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. (NIV)
Christians must deny themselves of everything which prevents them from following Jesus. If what is being done cannot be done in the Lord’s presence, it must be discarded. The attitude of denial must accompany the believer’s daily walk.
1 Cor 7:22-23 For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord’s freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ’s slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. (NIV)
Christian’s are Christ’s slaves. He purchased us with His blood. Our lives are hid in Christ; therefore, the desires of Christ should be our desires. Col 3:1-3. The slave seeks to please his master and the Master of Christians is Jesus Christ.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. (KJV)
Mark 7:6-7 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ (NIV)
Why do people who claim to love Jesus, refuse to obey His commandments? He set the parameters! He did not equivocate, nor did He speak in parables concerning this matter. He was extremely clear! If you love me, keep my commandments. The meaning cannot be misunderstood. It can only be accepted or denied. The failure to keep His commandments is the failure to love Him. His opinion is the only one that counts; therefore, those who fail to obey, but still claim allegiances to Christ are only fooling themselves.
The love of Christ is often spoken of these days, but the judgment isn’t, why is that? I hear all the time about how loving and forgiving God is, but I rarely hear about is the coming judgment against the wicked.
1 Cor 6:9-11 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (NIV)
1 Pet 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (KJV)
God commands us to be holy. This is not a request. He has provided us with the power to live a life of holiness. Although we will not be perfected until the resurrection, we can and must strive for holiness. We cannot live an unholy and willfully disobedient life, and remain in the will of God! We must submit to His will, not ours.
To state it simply, a Christian is a person whose body mind and spirit belong to Christ and he or she lives in that vessel for the sole purpose of serving Christ. The love Christians have for Christ must be greater than the love for anything in this world. This love must not only be stated, but demonstrated.
I Jn 2:15-16 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world– the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does– comes not from the Father but from the world. (NIV)
